Arc-Resistant Metal-Clad Switchgear
Metal-clad gear reinforced to contain an internal arc and vent it through a plenum and duct, so people at the front, back and sides stay safe. IEEE C37.20.7 Type 2B.
When It Fails, It Fails Safely
An internal arc releases a blast of hot gas and molten metal in milliseconds. Arc-resistant switchgear is built to contain that: reinforced panels and doors, pressure-relief flaps and a plenum that collects the gases and sends them out through a duct to a safe place. Type 2B accessibility protects people at the front, back and sides, even with the low-voltage instrument door open. Combined with remote racking, it keeps operators out of harm’s way.
- Reinforced, latched doors and panels
- Pressure-relief flaps into a common plenum
- Exhaust duct to outside or a safe zone
- Type 2B: front, back, sides and LV door open
- Draw-out vacuum breakers, remote racking
- Arc-flash detection relays available
Arc-Resistant Metal-Clad Switchgear in plain words
What it does
Metal-clad switchgear built and tested to contain an internal arc and vent it safely away through a plenum — protecting anyone standing in front of it.
Pick it when
- Operators work in front of energized gear
- Your arc-flash study shows high incident energy
- Your owner’s standard calls for IEEE C37.20.7 gear
Better choice if…
Arc-flash exposure is low and cost matters most
