Why Liquid-Filled

Where liquid-filled transformers win

01

Outdoors, all weather

A sealed, welded tank shrugs off rain, snow, dust and salt. That is why nearly every outdoor transformer is liquid-filled.

02

More power per dollar

Fluid carries heat away far better than air, so the same kVA fits in a smaller, lower-cost unit — the gap grows with size.

03

Handles overloads

The fluid’s thermal mass soaks up short overloads and cold-load pickup without damage.

04

Long, measurable life

A fluid sample tells you how the insulation is ageing. Well-kept units run for decades.

FAQ

Common questions

Liquid-filled or dry-type — which should I choose?

Outdoors, or above a few MVA, liquid-filled is usually the better value. Indoors, near people, or where fire and spill rules are strict, a dry-type transformer avoids containment and fire-separation costs. Many sites use both.

Mineral oil or FR3 natural ester?

Mineral oil is the economical standard. FR3 natural ester is made from vegetable oil: it is biodegradable, has a fire point above 300 °C (a “less-flammable” fluid), and slows paper insulation ageing. Choose it near buildings, water, or anywhere the fire code or environmental permit asks for a less-flammable fluid.

Do you build to Canadian standards?

Yes. Distribution transformers are built to CSA C2.1 and the CSA C227 padmount standards, power transformers to CSA C88, alongside the matching IEEE C57.12 standards. Every unit is tested in our facility before it ships.

Can you match a utility’s specification?

Yes. Send the specification and we will confirm compliance item by item, including voltages, fusing, bushings, finish and nameplate requirements.

How fast can I get one?

It depends on the rating and options. Call or send your requirements and an engineer will give you a firm date the same day; check our in-stock inventory for units ready now.

Do you offer field service?

Yes. Our field team handles delivery supervision, oil testing, commissioning and maintenance on what we build and on other makes.

Tell us about the load and the line

Send the kVA, voltages and how the power arrives. A CANDRON engineer will recommend the right transformer and quote it the same business day.
