Single-Phase Polemount Transformer
Overhead transformers for utilities, farms and rural services. Conventional or completely self-protected, with cover-mounted HV and side-mounted LV bushings. 5 – 333 kVA, 120/240 V.
The Workhorse of Overhead Lines
Pole-mounted transformers serve most rural and many older urban neighbourhoods. The HV bushing on the cover connects to the overhead line through a fuse cutout; the LV bushings on the side feed the service drops. A conventional unit relies on that external cutout and arrester. A completely self-protected (CSP) unit carries its own internal fuse, surge arrester and secondary breaker — handy where line crews want fewer parts on the pole.
- Conventional or completely self-protected (CSP)
- Cover-mounted HV, side-mounted LV bushings
- Hanger brackets for standard pole mounting
- Corrosion-resistant finish
- Mineral oil or FR3 natural ester
- Utility specifications welcome
Single-Phase Polemount Transformer in plain words
What it does
The round can on a hydro pole: it takes overhead distribution voltage and steps it down to 120/240 V for homes, farms and small businesses.
Pick it when
- The distribution line is overhead
- Loads are single-phase 120/240 V
- You want a simple, low-cost installation with no pad
Better choice if…
The service is underground

Common Questions
Follow the utility standard. Conventional units rely on an external cutout and arrester on the pole; CSP units have the fuse, arrester and a secondary breaker built in, which protects the transformer from overloads on the service side as well.
Mineral oil is the economical standard. FR3 natural ester is made from vegetable oil: it is biodegradable, has a fire point above 300 °C (a “less-flammable” fluid), and slows paper insulation ageing. Choose it near buildings, water, or anywhere the fire code or environmental permit asks for a less-flammable fluid.
